What Happens After You Book a Signature or Quick Candid Session

You did it—you booked your session! Whether it’s a Signature Candid or a Quick Candid, I’m so excited to work with you. You’ve taken the first step toward beautiful, natural images that feel like you.

Now you might be wondering… what happens next?

This post is your behind-the-scenes look at everything that happens after you hit “book.” From the moment your confirmation email hits your inbox to the final location details, here’s what to expect in this exciting in-between phase.

First Things First: Your Personalized Welcome Guide

A screenshot of the personalized Welcome Guide you'll get when you book a session with me.

Once your session is confirmed, the first thing you’ll receive is a Welcome Guide—a beautifully designed, easy-to-digest digital packet with everything you need to feel prepared and excited.

In it, you’ll find:

  • What to expect in the weeks leading up to your session
  • Style tips and wardrobe guidance
  • Location ideas and inspiration
  • FAQs about timing, prep, and more
  • A direct line to me if you have questions

Clients tell me this guide feels like a calming exhale—it helps take the guesswork out of the process, so you can relax and just look forward to the session.

Open Communication, Always

From the moment you book, you’re never on your own. I’m here to make the entire experience easy, enjoyable, and very well-communicated.

Here’s what that looks like:

  • You can reply to any email with questions—I typically respond within 24–48 hours.
  • I’ll check in as your session date approaches to confirm all the final details.
  • Need help deciding what to wear or unsure about a location? I’ve got you.

I want you to feel fully supported between now and session day.

What to Wear: Styling Support That Keeps It Simple

Choosing outfits can feel like a big task—but it doesn’t have to be. In your Welcome Guide, you’ll find a section devoted to style tips, color palettes that photograph beautifully, and a Pinterest board for visual inspo.

Here’s my styling philosophy:

  • Comfort is key—you don’t need to dress up or buy anything new (unless you want to).
  • Neutrals, textures, and soft tones photograph beautifully.
  • Layers and movement (like flowy skirts or cozy knits) add visual interest and emotion.

Still unsure? Feel free to send me a few outfit options. I’m happy to weigh in with ideas or help you coordinate your crew without stress.

Prepping Partners, Kids, and Anyone Else

Whether it’s your first family session or a quick solo portrait, I want everyone to show up feeling calm, confident, and not over-prepped.

Leading up to your session, I’ll send a quick reminder about:

  • How to keep kids happy and relaxed (no bribing needed!)
  • What to share with partners so they know what to expect
  • Tips for making the session fun and pressure-free

This isn't about perfect behavior or stiff smiles—it’s about showing up as you are, and letting real connection take center stage. I’ll guide the rest.

👉 Want extra tips for prepping the crew? I’ve got a full blog post that covers that too: How to Prep Kids & Partners for Your Photo Session.

If you want extra guidance at any point, just ask! Some clients like to:

  • Book a virtual wardrobe consult (free!)
  • Get a second opinion on makeup or hair
  • Run through location ideas in more detail
  • Add a keepsake film or photo book to their session

You don’t have to figure it all out on your own—I’m here to make this feel effortless and exciting, not overwhelming.

You’re Not “Just Waiting”—You’re Being Supported

The time between booking and the session can feel like a weird in-between, especially if you're unsure what you should be doing. But rest assured—I've built this process to keep you feeling taken care of without overwhelming your inbox.

Think of it as a soft runway. Everything is gently prepared behind the scenes, so when the session day arrives, you’ll feel calm, confident, and ready.

Final Note

If you ever feel unsure or stuck in the lead-up to your session, reach out. No question is too small or too silly—I truly want you to feel supported every step of the way.

We’re not just planning a photo session—we’re creating space for meaningful memories to unfold. And that starts now.

📬 Already booked and feeling excited? I can’t wait to see what we create together. If you still have questions before your session, just reply to your welcome email or shoot me a message anytime.
