What to Expect on the Day of Your Quick Candids Session

So—you booked your Quick Candids session (yay!) and the date is approaching. Maybe you’re wondering:

What should I bring? What if the kids melt down? What do I even do once we get there?

Good news: this post is your calm, friendly guide to what happens on the day of your session. These sessions are designed to be easy, joyful, and very low-stress. You don’t have to perform. You don’t have to pose. You just have to show up as you are—and I’ll take care of the rest.

Before You Arrive

You’ll receive an info guide ahead of time with everything you need to know: what to wear, where to meet, and what to bring. But here’s a quick refresher:

📍 Arrive 10 minutes early

This gives you a moment to breathe, tuck in that flyaway, or settle any last-minute nerves. We’ll start right on time and make the most of your 20 minutes.

👜 What to bring

  • A brush or comb
  • Snacks or a small treat for the kids (if you’re bringing them)
  • Layers if it’s chilly or the weather might shift
  • Any props that feel natural—like a blanket, a favorite book, or your dog!

But truthfully? You don’t need much—just yourselves.

When We Meet

We’ll say a quick hello, check in about anything specific you want captured, and then we’ll get right to it!

Quick Candids are… well, quick. But that doesn’t mean they feel rushed.

I’ll guide you gently throughout the session with simple prompts that keep things moving and natural. You won’t need to know what to do—I’ll help with that.

What You’ll Be Doing

Honestly? Just being you.

  • For families: We’ll move, play, snuggle, explore—whatever your energy is that day.
  • For couples: You might walk together, laugh about something, or just hold hands and talk.
  • For individuals: We’ll chat, move around a bit, and find your natural rhythm so you feel relaxed and confident.

You’re not performing. You’re just showing up—and that’s where the magic lives.

What I’m Doing (While You’re Just Living)

While you’re focused on your people (or just catching your breath), I’m paying attention to the light, the angles, and the tiny moments that make an image come alive.

I may guide you to better light or suggest a small shift in how you're standing—but everything stays rooted in connection and natural movement. Never stiff posing. Never forced smiles.

You’ll hear things like:
“Stay right there for just a second.”
“Keep walking—that’s perfect.”
“You don’t need to look at me. Just look at each other.”

And just like that, the moments start unfolding.

What If…?

What if my kid melts down?

Totally normal. We roll with it. Some of the best photos come from a big cuddle or a silly distraction right in the middle of a meltdown.

What if I feel awkward?

Most people do—for about two minutes. Then the nerves melt away, and it starts to feel more like hanging out than being photographed.

What if we’re running late?

Please try to arrive early so we don’t cut into your session time. If something comes up, just let me know as soon as possible—I’ll do what I can to make it work.

After the Session

You did it! And chances are, it felt way easier than you expected.

I’ll follow up with your gallery link in 5–7 days. You’ll be able to choose your favorite downloads, with the option to purchase more or upgrade your package. I’ll also send a few reminders about print discounts so you don’t miss them!

💡 Pro tip: If your session felt good, book the next round early—these fill up fast.

Final Thoughts

Quick Candids are about celebrating what’s real: your people, your connection, your story in this moment.

You don’t need to have it all together. You don’t need weeks of prep.
You just need to show up—and I’ll take care of the rest.
